Public Art Murals
Murals are a powerful way to reflect the character of a place, spark dialogue, and transform everyday spaces. Embracing murals as a storytelling medium, the City of Sarasota celebrates its cultural heritage while enhancing the visual appeal of both public and private properties.
Public Art Program Mural projects are selected through a thoughtful design development process, ensuring each piece aligns with the City’s values and contributes to a vibrant, inclusive environment. Whether enhancing the pedestrian experience or supporting cultural tourism, Sarasota’s murals serve as a testament to the City’s commitment to public art and creative expression.

Palm Avenue Parking Garage Murals
Painted in 2010, the murals inside the Palm Avenue Parking Garage create a vibrant five-story series celebrating Sarasota’s cultural life. Each level features a large-scale artwork themed around Dance, Film, Music, Opera, or Theatre, arranged alphabetically to help visitors remember where they parked. Created by local, national, and international artists, the murals highlight the city’s deep and lasting connection to the arts.
The Public Art Program has launched a Call for Walls initiative to identify privately owned walls in good condition within City limits for potential mural projects. By partnering with property owners, the program aims to expand opportunities for high-quality public art that reflects Sarasota’s unique identity.
