Call for Walls Initiative

The City of Sarasota Public Art Program is seeking blank walls in good condition within city limits to support future mural projects. If selected, your wall may be added to the City’s roster of available properties for consideration in upcoming mural initiatives.

When private property owners partner with the City on mural projects, the following criteria apply:

  • The wall must be offered for original, non-commercial artistic expression.

  • The wall must be in sound condition and fully visible from the public right-of-way.

  • The wall must be available for a minimum of two years.

  • Property owners must grant access to the artist and City staff for installation and any required maintenance.

  • Property owners must sign an agreement to make reasonable efforts to preserve and protect the artist’s work, with a typical longevity period of 5–10 years.

  • The artist will warranty the mural for two years. After that period, the property owner is generally responsible for basic maintenance as outlined in the maintenance agreement.

  • Mural concepts will be reviewed by the Public Art Committee, with input from the property owner and community members.

  • Public Art Program staff serve as liaisons to help coordinate mural requests and ensure projects align with the Public Art Plan and the character of the surrounding community.

  • Murals installed through this program are eligible to be included in the City's public art maintenance program, when applicable.

Please note: The Public Art Program does not fund commercial artwork. This includes any work that features a corporate logo, business name, branding, or imagery promoting a product, service, or item sold or available on the premises.

Participating in the Call for Walls Program is an opportunity to contribute to Sarasota’s cultural landscape, support walkability and placemaking, and bring lasting public art to your community. All mural concepts are subject to a thorough design development and community engagement process coordinated by the City’s Public Art Program.
