Since Hurricanes Helene and Milton hit Sarasota, the majority of local businesses have reopened successfully. Residents have largely returned to their daily routines and tourism is rebounding, bringing visitors back to the City of Sarasota. Despite these positive developments, substantial repairs are still necessary, especially at waterfront parks and public facilities. We understand the community’s desire to see these spaces restored quickly. However, the City is committed to rebuilding safely, sustainably, and in full compliance with state and federal requirements. Here's why many of these recovery projects require careful sequencing:
Below is a summary of where each project stands, what steps remain, and when you can expect construction to begin. Following permit approvals and contractor procurement, construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026, with a total estimated cost for repairs of $17.4 Million.

Streetlight Repairs have faced significant delays due to supply chain disruptions following consecutive hurricanes. Sarasota currently competes with other impacted regions in Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia for essential materials. Streetlight components are anticipated to arrive within the next several months.
