Public Art

The City of Sarasota’s Public Art Program enhances public spaces with artworks that reflect the community’s culture, history, and natural surroundings. Funded entirely by developer public art fees—without using taxpayer dollars—the program supports the installation and care of artworks throughout the city. This partnership with local developers plays a vital role in bringing public art to life across Sarasota, ensuring it remains a meaningful and lasting part of the community. Guided by the City’s Public Art Plan, the program highlights a wide range of artistic voices, supporting local creators while also featuring national and international talent.

"Harmony in Motion" Public Art Mural Dedication

Friday, February 6, 2026 - 3 p.m.
North Water Tower Park
Join the City of Sarasota for the dedication of Harmony in Motion, a new mural created through the City’s Public Art Program at North Water Tower Park. Created by local artist Edward James Walsh, the mural is the first public art installation in the Bayou Oaks Neighborhood. Remarks will be shared by City and community representatives.

Meet the Petticoat Painters: Film and Q&A (City Hall Art Exhibit)

Friday, February 27, 2026 - 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
City Hall Commission Chambers
This program includes a short documentary film about the Petticoat Painters, followed by a moderated Q&A with members of the group. Attendees will gain insight into the collective’s long history, artistic perspectives, and the evolution of women’s creative practice in Sarasota.

The exhibition year concludes with a celebratory outdoor program featuring plein air painting, artist demonstrations, and a festive environment in recognition of Women’s History Month. Join the artists on the City Hall promenade as the City honors the lasting influence and creative vision of this historic women’s art group.
