The City of Sarasota Office of Economic Development (OED) recently completed its Economic Development Market Analysis & Visioning initiative for the City, encompassing its business districts and neighborhoods. The results will serve as the foundation for a strategic economic development plan that will integrate the objectives and actions aimed at leveraging Sarasota’s opportunities while addressing local needs through effective resource allocation. The report consists of the Executive Summary, Recommendations, Public Input, and Market Analysis. The Market Analysis offers a review of the trade area for the City of Sarasota and includes a compilation of demographic and lifestyle data, retail expenditure data, an assessment of existing conditions, real estate and housing market insights, along with consumer trends categorized by their respective impact on one of the five essential drivers of economic development: Markets, Land, Labor, Capital, and Regulation. The Recommendations encompass efforts related to business retention and expansion, marketing and branding, strategic planning, as well as disaster recovery and resilience; all of which are connected to conventional economic development.
