Hearings

The Code Compliance Division holds code violation hearings on Thursdays from approximately 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. in front of a Special Magistrate. The City Commission has appointed 1 primary Special Magistrate and 2 alternates. These Special Magistrates are local attorneys that are also residents of the City of Sarasota, but are not City employees.

All hearings are open to the public, but only parties involved in the case or any witnesses that are called are permitted to speak during the proceedings.

Need to appear via telephone?

  1. Complete the Telephone Conference Request Form(PDF, 41KB).
  2. Return the form to our office. You may return it via email to CodeCompliance@sarasotafl.gov, via fax to via fax to (941) 954-4187, or in person Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  3. Based on the preference selected, you will receive confirmation if your request is approved. 

Need to file a Lien Settlement Request?

  1. Complete the Lien Settlement Request Form(PDF, 68KB).
  2. Return the form to our office. You may return it via email to CodeCompliance@sarasotafl.gov, via fax to (941) 954-4187, or in person Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  3. The request will be reviewed by the appropriate City staff and you will be contacted regarding a potential settlement.
