Every year the City of Sarasota publishes a Water Quality Report to inform Citizen's about the high-quality water resources available to them as customers.

How do I open a new utility account?

Home-owner Applicants

Please visit the Customer Service counter of the Utility Billing Office, 1761 12th St., in the City of Sarasota. Applicants must bring:

  • Two forms of ID (one must be a government-issued picture ID – driver's license or passport)
  • Proof of ownership (If you are listed as the property owner on the Sarasota County Property Appraiser's website no additional ownership documentation is required; If you have purchased the home in the last 7 days, please present the Utility Billing customer service representative with your closing documents as proof of ownership)
  • Deposit and 1st Month Solid Waste Fee: $199.55 (Check, Cash, Credit, or Money Order)

Renter Applicants

Please visit the Customer Service counter of the Utility Billing Office, 1761 12th St., in the City of Sarasota. Applicants must bring:

  • Two forms of ID (one must be a government-issued picture ID – driver's license or passport)
  • Copy of Rental Lease (signed by Owner and occupant) and/or Management Company Lease agreement
  • Deposit and 1st Month Solid Waste Fee: $199.55 (Check, Cash, Credit, or Money Order)

Commercial/Business Applicants

Please visit the Customer Service counter of the Utility Billing Office, 1761 12th St., in the City of Sarasota. Applicants must bring:

  • A copy of Corporation and Tax ID documents (businesses must be incorporated in Florida to have utility accounts in the Corporation's name).

When is a new utility account required?

A New Utility Account is Required for

  • Change of property ownership
  • Change of account holder
  • Three (3) days prior to the date of change of ownership, tenancy, or business.

How do I reinstate my service after nonpayment?

When utility services have been turned off due to nonpayment, to reinstate services the account holder must

  • Pay the full account balance (Cash or Credit only)
  • Contact the Utility Billing department (In person or by telephone 941-263-6260) to have utility services activated again in their name.

Why do I have a monthly charge when no one is using water?

All occupied or unoccupied buildings and dwelling units which are connected to the City of Sarasota's water or sewer services shall be subject to the monthly unit service availability charges for water and sewer, or both, even in months when there is no consumption of water, or no usage of water or sewer services by the customer.

I received a full month's bill but my account wasn't active that long.

The unit service availability charges shall be assessed for any month the account is active for five (5) or more days of the billing cycle. However, if one thousand (1,000) gallons or more of water have been consumed, the unit service availability charges shall be assessed without regard to the number of days of the billing cycle that the account was active.
