July 9, 2026

The City was recently notified of the approval of $4 million in state funding for three significant infrastructure improvement projects:

Whitaker Bayou Dredging

  • $2,499,750 in State funding to restore the original depth of the Whitaker Bayou channel, reducing repetitive loss flooding and improving water quality.

St. Armands Key Corridor Improvements

  • $1,250,000 in State funding to improve primary evacuation corridors on St. Armands Key, enhancing evacuation readiness, reducing flooding, and ensuring quicker restoration of access following tropical weather events.

Citywide ADA Barrier Removal

  • $250,000 in State funding to implement accessibility upgrades at City facilities to meet ADA goals and improve pedestrian safety across municipal buildings, parks, and public rights-of-way.

The City thanks Representatives Fiona McFarland and James Buchanan, and Senator Joe Gruters, for supporting these state appropriations and Governor Ron DeSantis for approving the funding in the state budget for these necessary infrastructure improvements in our community.
