City Commission recognizes Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Oct. 5, 2026

Domestic violence is a serious crime that affects people across ages, income levels, and gender but most often women and children.

Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) provides free services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children in Sarasota and DeSoto Counties, and works to stop these crimes through community awareness and education.

During its meeting this morning, the City Commission recognized October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, underscoring the importance of efforts to protect victims and prevent abuse. A representative from SPARCC was on hand to receive the recognition.
