During today's regular City Commission meeting, the Commission bid farewell to Public Works Director Doug Jeffcoat as he steps into retirement.
Doug has served the City of Sarasota since 1995 and was appointed Public Works Director in 2010. As Public Works Director, he coordinated a wide range of City operations and services, ensuring that the City's level of service was maintained to the high standards that residents have come to enjoy. During hurricanes, Doug was stationed at the City's Emergency Operations Center coordinating Public Works' emergency response and preparing post-storm debris pickup.
In October 2024, Doug stepped up to fill the role of Interim City Manager, selflessly postponing his scheduled retirement to ensure the continued smooth operation of City functions.
Doug is the epitome of a public servant and, throughout his 30-year tenure with the City, consistently demonstrated his willingness to step up and do what needed to be done for both the City and the community. We wish him the very best as he begins his well-deserved retirement.
Thank you, Doug, for all you have done for our City!
