Barrier Removal

The Barrier Removal Program is a grant and forgivable loan program designed to make the home accessible, allowing income-eligible disabled and elderly residents to live independently. The first $3,000 in assistance is a grant that does not need to be repaid. Improvements costing between $3,000 and $15,000 are provided as a loan that is forgiven at a rate of $3,000 per year, as long as the property is not sold, transferred, leased, and the homeowner continues to live in the home. There are no monthly payments or interest on the forgiven loan.
