The Sarasota Office of Housing and Community Development (OHCD) will be accepting applications from non-profit agencies for its Special Needs Housing Program beginning November 1, 2018. All applications are due no later than 4:00 p.m. on November 13, 2018. The Special Needs Housing Program permits OHCD to lend State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) and County Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding to non-profit organizations to provide permanent rental housing opportunities for special needs populations. All program funds must be used to create additional permanent rental housing units which is defined as housing that has an initial lease term of at least twelve (12) months. Properties may not be used to house individuals receiving a monthly rent subsidy through either the City or the County.
Applicants will be expected to increase the number of special needs housing units. CDBG and SHIP funds may not be used to demolish and rebuild existing special needs housing units or to rehabilitate existing housing already occupied by special needs households. CDBG funds may not be used for the new construction of housing.
