After the tremendous success of last year's projection mapping event, the City of Sarasota Public Art Program is once again bringing public art to life through light, motion, and imagination.
On Friday, November 6 from 7 to 10 p.m., as part of Fresh Fridays "Beyond the Canvas," the iconic "sails" façade of the Palm Avenue Parking Garage will be transformed into a monumental canvas for a one-night-only projection mapping experience. This innovative Public Art Program project invites audiences to experience Sarasota's public art collection in an entirely new way.
The installation will feature 11 original digital artworks created by students from Ringling College of Art and Design's Department of Motion Design, led by Professor Dante Rinaldi. Drawing inspiration from Sarasota's public art collection, students have reimagined familiar works through animation and digital storytelling, offering fresh perspectives on the artwork that helps define our city.
Created through a collaboration between Ringling College, LightMural, and the City of Sarasota Public Art Program, the project blends emerging artistic talent with cutting-edge projection technology. The installation is produced by LightMural founders Ed Cheetham and Kelly Warner, whose recent work includes the Public Art Program's Light Up the Sky Interactive America 250 Art Experience.
Before discovering this year's new artworks, take a look back at the inaugural projection mapping event and see how the Palm Avenue Garage became one of Sarasota's most memorable public art experiences.
