City Commission recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April 20, 2024

Sexual violence remains a serious and widespread public health issue, affecting individuals and families throughout Sarasota.

Community-wide education, awareness, and accountability are essential to preventing sexual assault and supporting those who have survived it. Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center (SPARCC) provides free services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and their children. The organization also works to stop these crimes by advocating for communities to engage in discussions about sexual violence and work together to address it effectively.

At this morning's meeting, the City Commission recognized April 2026 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month, underscoring the importance of ongoing community engagement, open dialogue, and collaborative efforts to support survivors and reduce sexual violence in Sarasota.
