City Commission recognizes Salvation Army Day

May 4, 2026

For nearly a century, The Salvation Army has met the needs of individuals and families experiencing hardship in Sarasota with compassion and dignity.

In addition to providing relief for those facing homelessness, food insecurity, addiction, and crisis, the organization’s local Center of Hope shelter empowers people to find stability and renewed hope as they work to rebuild their lives.

National Salvation Army Week provides the opportunity to acknowledge the impact of these services. During its meeting this morning, the City Commission recognized May 13, 2026 as Salvation Army Day, highlighting the importance of caring for neighbors in need. The proclamation was received by Capt. Jim Curry, who shared that the organization’s compassion and dedication helped him overcome homelessness in Los Angeles 30 years ago and build a better future for himself.
