City Commission appoints Interim City Manager
Published on May 20, 2025
Sarasota, FL: Longtime local government administrator Dave Bullock was appointed unanimously by the City Commission to serve as Interim City Manager during a special meeting Tuesday.
Bullock will leave retirement and begin this new role on Tuesday, May 27.
A well-respected administrator in Sarasota with 30 years’ experience in the public sector, Bullock served as the Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County Chief Executive Officer from 2019-2021; Longboat Key Town Manager from 2011-2018 and Sarasota County Deputy Administrator from 1997-2011. He has extensive experience overseeing day-to-day operations and budget management.
Bullock will replace Doug Jeffcoat who was appointed Interim City Manager in October 2024 by the City Commission upon the retirement of City Manager Marlon Brown. Jeffcoat will resume his role as Public Works Director and postpone his June 1 retirement to assist with the management transition, with initial focus on the current budget planning cycle.
The City Commission also affirmed a process to hire an executive search firm to conduct the City Manager search. The Procurement Division will issue a letter of interest soon to seven firms, as outlined in the Florida City and County Management Association’s City Manager Search Guide, inquiring about each firm’s desire to conduct a City Manager search for the City of Sarasota.
