City to host Veterans Day parade Tuesday, Nov. 11
Sarasota, FL: The City of Sarasota, in conjunction with the Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee, will host the annual Veterans Day parade at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, in downtown Sarasota.
The parade will start at Main Street and Orange Avenue, a new location from previous years, and conclude at Chaplain J.D. Hamel Park, located at Main Street and Gulfstream Avenue, where the iconic Doughboy War Memorial recently was professionally restored. A ceremony will be held at the park at approximately 11 a.m., honoring all military veterans who have served the United States. The public is encouraged to attend.
This year's keynote speaker will be Michael Bennett. After serving in the United States Navy, Bennett went on to form a successful business career in the Sarasota-Manatee area, later being elected to and championing veterans’ causes in the Florida House of Representatives, the Florida Senate, and as Manatee County Supervisor of Elections until retiring in 2024.
The parade will include performances from Sarasota Military Academy and other local high school marching bands. Local law enforcement agencies, first responders, color guards, veterans’ groups, community organizations, and local dignitaries will also participate in the parade.
Commercial vehicles will not be allowed to participate.
For more information, including inquiries about participating in the parade, contact Sarasota Patriotic Observance Committee Chairman Dan Kennedy at 941-812-5406.
