Harmony in Motion is a recently completed mural at North Water Tower Park and the first public art installation in the Bayou Oaks Neighborhood. Created by Bayou Oaks resident and Ringling College of Art and Design alumnus Edward James Walsh, the project was approved by the Public Art Committee in August 2025 and developed in partnership with the Bayou Oaks Neighborhood Association and the City of Sarasota Parks and Recreation Department.
Installed on the east-facing wall of the park’s public restroom building, the mural introduces a new visual landmark within a well-used community space anchored by the neighborhood’s historic water tower. North Water Tower Park is known for its disc golf course, walking paths, and natural setting, and serves as a gathering place for residents and visitors throughout the year.
The mural depicts a disc golf player mid-throw in silhouette at sunset, surrounded by imagery drawn from the park environment, including oak trees, native birds, and community members enjoying the space with leashed dogs. Rendered in a vibrant, illustrative style, the artwork reflects both the recreational character of the park and the natural landscape of the Bayou Oaks Neighborhood.
As the inaugural public art project in Bayou Oaks, Harmony in Motion represents an important expansion of public art into the neighborhood and highlights the role of local artists in shaping shared civic spaces. A public dedication ceremony is currently being planned to celebrate the completed artwork and the community collaboration behind the project.
