Rhapsody in Bloom” by Alissa Silvers

The City of Sarasota Public Art Program partnered with the Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex to bring new color and creativity to the Lifeguard Headquarters building through a two-wall mural by local artist Alissa Silvers (Liss Design).

About the Mural

Lifeguard Headquarters mural with lifeguard sitting in front

Rhapsody in Bloom” is a joyful, abstract celebration of Sarasota’s coastal energy and native beauty. Designed specifically for the Arlington Park & Aquatic Complex, the mural blends tropical flora like frangipani, sea grapes, palms, and lilies with wave-inspired forms, light reflections, and bold bursts of color.

The composition stretches across both mural walls, using the building’s architecture to guide a flowing, layered rhythm. Air bubble shapes are subtly woven into the design, symbolizing movement through water and reinforcing the aquatic theme.

With its bold palette, organic shapes, and modern aesthetic, the mural evokes a sense of energy and calm at once, like a tropical breeze in visual form. It invites curiosity, connection, and joy for park visitors of all ages, making it a natural fit for this beloved community space.

Community Paint Day

More than 100 volunteers of all ages joined the artist to help bring portions of the mural to life during Community Paint Day. Held in partnership with Arlington Park’s Kids Wellness Fair, the event invited families, neighbors, and swimmers to pick up a brush, add color to the design, and learn more about the Public Art Program’s process.
The hands-on participation and energy of the day created a strong sense of ownership and connection to the artwork, making the mural a true community celebration.
