Shred Stock Event
The City's Records and Information Management (RIM) Division, in partnership with The Bay, is pleased to announce another Shred Stock Event for this year, taking place on Saturday, March 21st, 2026, from 9:00 AM to Noon in the Van Wezel parking lot.
***This event will also include our first ever collection of electronic items for recycling or destruction! A list of acceptable and not acceptable electronic items is shown below.***
The City's RIM Division encourages residents to protect themselves against fraud by destroying documents containing sensitive and personal information.
This environmentally friendly shredding event will feature a 1960s theme, complete with live music by The Garbage Men, performing 60s cover songs using self-made instruments made from sustainable materials.
Shred Truck Information:
This service is provided by A1 Shredding & Recycling A1 Shredding & Recycling is BBB and NAID certified and are also HIPAA compliant. A certificate of destruction will be provided to the City once all items have been shredded and taken to their facility for recycling.
City of Sarasota residents are invited to bring up to four (4) boxes of paper records per household for free, secure, on-site shredding. Here is a list of acceptable and not acceptable items for shredding purposes in the provided shred truck:
Accepted Items:
- Paper documents
- File folders
- Staples and paperclips
Items NOT Accepted:
- CDs, DVDs, and other electronic media
- Hard metals, trash, or batteries
- Binders and binder clips
- Plastic items
To ensure efficiency and safety, please remove all non-paper materials before arriving.
Electronics Recycling Truck Information:
This service is provided by Rocycle. Rocycle will take anything IT, electronic, or electronic-related. Rocycle is an AAA NAID certified facility for data destruction and are R2V3 certified for responsible electronics recycling.
City of Sarasota residents are invited to bring their household electronics for free on-site collection. All collected items will be taken to Rocycle's facility for data destruction and responsible electronics recycling. A certificate of destruction will be provided to the City once all items have been reviewed, recycled, and/or destroyed.
Accepted Items:
- Batteries (all types, such as AAA, AA, 9V, C, D, and larger batteries such as cell phone, computer, and car batteries)
- Cell Phones
- Small Copiers (not the large copy-center style copiers)
- Desktop Computers
- CD/DVD Players
- Keyboards
- Laptops
- Computer Mice
- Computer Monitors (maximum of 3 per vehicle)
- Network Equipment, Routers, and Servers
- Plasma, LCD, and CRT Televisions (maximum of 3 per vehicle)
- Printers and Fax Machines
- Stereo Equipment
- Cabling and Cords
- Small Appliances (Microwaves, toaster ovens, coffee machines, etc.)
- Electronic Toys
Items NOT Accepted:
- Large Appliances such as Washers, Dryers, and Refrigerators
As a token of appreciation, all participants will receive a 15% off coupon for The Nest Café, located in The Bay Park.
The City of Sarasota is not liable for items mistakenly included for shredding or given to the recycling company for electronics recycling/destruction.
