In 2008, the City of Sarasota established the Newtown Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) in response to documented conditions of "blight and slum" in portions of north Sarasota. The CRA is overseen by an Advisory Board that recommends funding allocations be directed to activities, projects, and programs that will result in meaningful redevelopment of the CRA area. The currently adopted redevelopment plan includes:
Volume I (Plan)

PLAN UPDATE: The City of Sarasota is working with the community to create an Updated Plan for redevelopment in the Newtown CRA - that will reflect ten years of progress, and refine the community's goals for the future. The Office of Economic Development anticipates the creation of the plan during the calendar year 2019. The updated plan will provide an economic road-map for the Newtown CRA 2020 - 2040.
