Open government is the heart of the City’s Communication Division. Whether it’s live meeting coverage or On Demand, residents and visitors are never far away from the information they want. Our award-winning staff of video professionals produce high-quality original programs on a wide range of City topics, and citizens will find a variety of useful information and services on our City website.
The Communications Division takes great pride in the information we provide to the public via our original programming and our meeting broadcasts. This content is provided through two separate outlets: Our website, and on the local television channel we share with Sarasota County (Comcast Channel 19, Verizon Channel 32). Our meeting broadcasts are delivered through a state-of-the-art video streaming solution that is available 24/7 right here on our website. You’ll find City Commission Meetings in addition to Planning Board Meetings and a variety of other Advisory Boards. Many of these meetings can be viewed live, and all of them can be viewed on-demand. Our staff is also responsible for no less than 5 regular, ongoing original programs, which have won numerous state and national awards. Check out our Award Archive to see a list of awards we’ve received.
The Communications Division maintains the spirit of open government through positive relationships with the local media. Our staff helps produce timely and information-rich news releases when necessary.
The Communications Division is made up of two positions and reports to the Deputy City Auditor & Clerk. At any given time, staff may be found on the street interviewing citizens, in the Commission Chambers directing the broadcast of a meeting, or in the SRQ Media Studio with three cameras taping a program.
