Vacancies

The City Commission of the City of Sarasota is seeking individuals willing to serve on the following Advisory Boards:

Board of Adjustment

Two seats required to be city residents (one current member is eligible for re-appointment, one current member is not eligible)

Board of Rules and Appeals

Five seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat - licensed mechanical contractor (currently vacant)
  • One seat - individual with education, experience and knowledge to be deemed competent to sit in judgment of matters concerning the Florida Building Code and Florida Fire Prevention Code (current members are not eligible for re-appointment) 
  • One seat - licensed fire sprinkler contractor (current member is not eligible for re-appointment)
  • Two seats - consumer representatives who are not, and never have been a member or practitioner of a profession regulated by the board or a member of any closely related profession (current members are not eligible for re-appointment)

Citizens with Disabilities Advisory Board

Four seats with the following requirements:

  • Three seats with preference for city residents (current members are eligible for re-appointment)
  • one seat for STAR (Students Taking Active Roles) Program Member - for more information on the STAR program contact The Boys & Girls Club Leadership Program at (941) 217-5295

Downtown Improvement District

One seat for a non-residential property owner subject to ad valorem taxation within the District (current member is eligible for re-appointment)

Employee Retirement Account Committee

Two seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat with preference for individual with investment banking or investment management experience (current member eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat with preference for participant of plan (current member eligible for re-appointment)

Historic Preservation Board

Two seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat for an Attorney who is a city resident (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for an Architect who is a city resident (current member is eligible for re-appointment)

Human Relations Board

Three seats with preference for city residents (current members are eligible for re-appointment)

Newtown CRA Advisory Board

Three seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat for an owner of land in the redevelopment area (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for a retailer or merchant in the redevelopment area (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for a citizen at large who is a city resident (current member is eligible for re-appointment)

Nuisance Abatement Board

One seat with preference for city resident (current member is eligible for re-appointment)

Parks, Recreation and Environmental Protection Advisory Board

Three seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat with preference for city resident (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for citizen with particular interest in or association with Robert L Taylor Community Center (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for a STAR (Students Taking Active Roles) Program Member - for more information on the STAR program contact The Boys & Girls Club Leadership Program at (941) 217-5295

Public Art Committee

Three seats with the following requirements:

  • One seat for an Architect who is city resident or property owner (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for an Art Expert who is city resident or property owner (current member is not eligible for re-appointment)
  • One seat for a city resident or property owner (current member is eligible for re-appointment)

Sarasota Housing Authority

One seat with no requirement (currently vacant)

St. Armands Business Improvement District Board of Directors 

One seat for an individual who is subject to ad valorem taxation within the District either personally or through a beneficial ownership in an entity which is subject to ad valorem taxation in the District (current member is eligible for re-appointment)
