Federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds were used to upgrade the pavilion and bathrooms at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. The Office of Housing and Community Development administers the CDBG grant for the City of Sarasota, and funds are used to benefit low- and moderate-income persons.  Although federal funding generally continues to decrease, CDBG funds have been utilized to the fullest extent by the City for a variety of projects: community centers and day care centers, parks and playgrounds, street renovations, drainage mitigation, public services including youth employment, commercial/business storefront renovation and single-family home rehabilitation are just some of the projects completed or leveraged with CDBG grant funds.

  • A brand-new kitchen is now available.
  • The old window was replaced.
  • Entire structure has been repainted inside and out.
  • Bathrooms have been updated to ADA standards and have doubled in size.
  • The roof was repaired.
  • New landscaping and irrigation was added to the park.
