Sarasota, FL: With the upcoming New Year’s Eve celebrations on tap and thousands of visitors expected downtown, the City of Sarasota Parking Operations Division is offering parking reminders to boost safety and reduce the chances of receiving a parking violation.
Parking Manager Mark Lyons asks motorists to consider these parking reminders:
- Drive lanes must remain open and clear (Do not obstruct traffic)
- Park in the direction of traffic
- Park 20 feet clear of a crosswalk
- Park at least 30 feet from a stop sign
- Remain clear of fire hydrants
- Do not block visual range for other vehicles near intersections
- Parking is not permitted on the sidewalk
- Use the Parker mobile app to find available parking spaces
“We want our residents and visitors to park smartly, park safely and park legally,” Lyons said. “Please respect the neighborhood and environment where you park and help make this an enjoyable celebration for everyone.”
There is currently no fee to park legally on a City of Sarasota street.
If you’re visiting St. Armands Circle, parking pay stations recently installed there will not be operational until after the construction of the St. Armands Parking Garage in late January. Hundreds of free parking spaces are available in the area, and more than 500 will be open when the garage is complete.
To help mitigate traffic congestion, the public is encouraged to consider carpooling or using alternative transportation to attend the downtown New Year’s Eve Pineapple Drop.
On Monday, Dec. 31, a $5 cash-only pay on entry fee will be collected at the Palm Avenue Garage and State Street Garage.
