UPDATE:  (12/20/18)  -  School Avenue between Ringling Boulevard and Novus Street will remain temporarily closed to traffic until Friday, January 18, 2019.   The temporary closure is being extended due to inclement weather and holiday closures of concrete and asphalt companies.

Sarasota, FL:  School Avenue between Ringling Boulevard and Novus Street will be temporarily closed to traffic for six weeks starting Monday, November 12.  The closure is necessary while a private contractor installs a stormwater pipe for a new development, Payne Park Village. School Ave Closure

Entrances to the Sarasota County parking garage and Florida Department of Health and Payne Park parking lots will be open and accessible to traffic.

The recommended detour is S. Shade Avenue via Ringling Boulevard and Wood Street. Electronic message boards are activated in the area alerting drivers about the street closure and detour.

The area will remain accessible to pedestrians.  A temporary sidewalk will be built  around the construction area and will be accessible until a permanent sidewalk is constructed.

The stormwater pipe installation will require the removal and replacement of the street pavement, sidewalk and landscaping in the right-of-way.

School Avenue is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, December 27.
